Tools of the Trade

Communication is an artform that continues to evolve and change over time. The essence of needing to connect with each other is not much different; but how we do it, is.

The challenge is learning what works for the relationships in your life. That can be both personal and in business. The depth of what you share may be different, but nonetheless, we have to figure out how to connect and communicate our thoughts, feelings and ideas in a successful way.

With that in mind, Northern Digs Design has decided to include CAD--computer aided design--into our toolbox this year. I've been thinking about it for awhile. It was something that I knew would eventually have to happen when the time was right.

That became clear to me, last year, when I had to pass on a couple of commercial projects. They were just a little too big and beyond what I could render in the form of paper and pencil. I prefer the tactile satisfaction of elements I can hold in my hand, to create and do my work. But I have to be realistic and provide another means to communicate ideas: technology has a way of moving us along whether we are ready or not.

So it begins: I have a new computer, software and tutorials to help me reach this goal of communicating to my clients in a new way. CAD is not new--but it has come a long way since the early days of my education! I am excited to see how it will change my business and make it easier to visualize the ideas I have for making those outdoor spaces more beautiful and inviting.

Here's to 2020: a vision to see ideas come to life in a more clear and concise way.

Cheers,

Liz :)
